Lands Outreach Coordinator

Summary of Work Activities
The Ketchikan Beaches Association, Leask Users Coalition in partnership with the Southeast Alaska Land Trust  is seeking a contractor for organizing recreation and conservation projects in beautiful Ketchikan, Alaska. Job duties include grant-writing, public outreach and organizing volunteers. The coordinator will assist the Leask Lakes Users Coalition (LUC) and Ketchikan Beaches Association (KBA) in accomplishing their objectives for enhancing and protecting community interest lands.  This is a part time position administered by a contract. 
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Background in resource management, environmental science, recreation management, recreation management, community planning, or similar work
  • Minimum of 2 years of working in advocacy or public outreach position
  • Or a combination of work experience and education.

Job Tasks Includes:

  • Coordinate community outreach programs, engage and educate the community in local land initiatives
  • Solicit program support through clear written communications, including proposal and grant writing.
  • Compile historical use information and natural resource values.
  • Collate and circulate compelling information to resource agencies, the public, land trusts, industry representatives and potential partners.
  • Coordinate efforts of multiple partners.
  • Hold timely informational meetings for volunteers and organize public meetings.
  • Provide public notification of meetings and events.
  • Work with state and local media outlets to release stories on relevant issue.
  • Maintain information on the websites and sharing information with volunteers.

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to current political, socioeconomic and conservation issues at the local and state level.
  • Must be able to work independently and possess strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions based on analysis, ability to inquire and interact professionally with colleagues.
  • Ability to use existing technology including the Microsoft Suite
  • Strong personal skills.
  • Ability to communicate a compelling arguments and sense of core purpose to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with diverse groups of people including volunteers, the public, potential donors, political and community leaders.
